Theodor Reuss (1855-1923) was a German occultist and esotericist known for his involvement in various secret societies and his influential role in the development of modern Western esotericism. Reuss was a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, a prominent British occult organization, and later founded his own esoteric order called Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO).
Reuss also had an interest in Eastern spirituality and was initiated into various Indian and Chinese mystical traditions, including Tantra and Taoism. He was known for his eclectic approach to mysticism and his belief in the universal nature of spiritual truth.
Aside from his esoteric pursuits, Reuss was a journalist and writer, contributing to various German newspapers and magazines. He also served as a police officer and fought in World War I.
Reuss's legacy continues to be felt in the world of modern Western esotericism, with the OTO still active today and his ideas and teachings influencing many contemporary practitioners of the occult.
